another ^ Date

I haven't been drawing a lot, but I got in the mood a few weeks ago when the staff at work were doing inventory and I couln't be there hahaha.  I did this very quickly, but a lot of people saw it and I ended up getting a few commissions out of the deal!  That should be enough to get me back into the swing of things.  I've really missed sitting down and drawing for myself!

Another tree, another...10 cents?

As I head into my 7th season in the tree planting world (this time as a cook and NOT a planter), I am getting quite anxious.  Before the season starts, there are always mixed feelings of excitement and dread.  You're always excited to see old friends and meet new ones (although by this time, all of my 'cool' friends from the beginning are gone and are now replaced by fairly immature 19 year olds who insist on wearing makeup on days off and blow drying their hair in the mess tent), and you are always remembering all of the reasons why you swore you would never come back for another season.  so.  Here I am.  Going out for the last time.  Seriously.  This was a little something that I put together for our big big boss.  I call it "A Planter's Season in 3 parts".

It blows my mind how dull my scanner can make things look at times.  Oh well!  I am dangerously close to replacing my entire scanning/printing unit to something that really works!

This is just a little something I am working on.  A few places in town have asked me to sell some stuff at their stores, so I am just trying to be a bit diverse!

UGLY MERMAIDS

I'm doing this personal project on ugly mermaids.  I swear I am not doing this mermaid thing on purpose!  I've never really drawn them until the last few years.

I made a short poem of around 28 lines about these ugly mermaids.  Mermaids are supposed to be beautiful, and these ones are not!

Here are some things I have been working on (a little bit).  I was feeling in a bit of a creative rut for a while so I quit this book thing and started doing some watercolour images for another book idea.  I haven't scanned them in yet but MAN!!  Watercolour is so much fun.

A "UNIK" experience

Today I had one of the days since I moved up north!  I have an artist friend who does a lot of screenprinting in Smithers and she was running one of her awesome how-to workshops.  Here, we learned how to prep a screen, about different inks and materials, how to print your design, and we all got to make a t-shirt and print on anything else that we brought along with us.  I made 5 cards, printed on veneer, and made 3 t-shirts!  Her studio is absolutely fabulous (as is she) and the class was so much fun!  I got to use my octopus that I posted the other day and I learned A LOT.  I really didn't know that there was so much involved in screenprinting!  Visit Sophie Joubarne's blog and also her website Unik Printshop.  She also sells things on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/unikprintshop.  She's an amazing artist who I think needs more recognition!!

Broccoli Makes You Run Faster

For my self-directed final project, I wrote and illustrated a children's book. After finishing, I realized that this really is something that I want to pursue. I also realized that planning, writing, editing, thumbnailing, sketching, finalizing, doing the line work, colouring, collaborating with a friend to lay it out, and printing it are all tasks that together generally should be planned over the span of a year and not four months. Nonetheless, It is finished and I bound the cover by hand!
The whole ordeal was stressful at times, but generally it was a huge experience that I will definitely be starting again this winter!

I'm going to fix it up and then start selling it on Amazon, so I'll let you know when it is available.

This was my christmas card this year. it comes with blue hearted and pink hearted underwear. I originally had a present in the corner that was ripped open, but I could not draw torn paper... I got a few laughs out of it and a few gross faces (which is what I wanted muahahah) so I guess it was a success.
